Protect Your Baby From Concussions
Child concussions typically arise from impacts to the back of the head, not the front. Compared to all other age groups, children under the age of 4 years old have the highest incident rates of traumatic brain injury. The leading cause of head injuries for babies and toddlers are falls at home.
During the "explorative phase" parents are recommended to use proper head protection to reduce chances of damaging falls. The signs of a concussion aren’t always obvious. They can include unusual symptoms like sadness, repeating questions, tingling and trouble falling asleep.
Research has shown that repeated blows to the head can have lasting effects on the brain. And, if a second concussion is sustained before the first concussion heals, children are at risk for a life threatening condition called Second Impact Syndrome.
